Meet ‘The Hunger Games’ Star Jennifer Lawrence (PHOTOS)

Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, and the buzz over the trailer has created some curiosity among fans of Suzanne Collins' popular trilogy.

So who is the young woman playing Katniss?

Lawrence is an Academy Award-nominated actress. She was nominated for her role as Ree Dolly in the acclaimed film Winter's Bone, for which she received several other nominations and awards. She also played Mystique in X-Men: First Class.

Today, Lawrence can be seen on the big screen in the film Like Crazy. She plays the second-string love interest to Anton Yelchin's character, who is really in love with his long-distance girlfriend.

She is set to star in the 2013 film The Silver Linings Playbook with Robert DeNiro and Bradley Cooper.

Lawrence grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and told Rolling Stone in an interview that she enjoyed doing outdoorsy things, such as fishing and playing sports.

I went through a wood-chopping phase when I was nine or 10, she told the magazine.
