Meet The New MTV ‘TRL’ Hosts And Correspondents
MTV’s “TRL” is back and bigger than ever!
Literally, as its rotation of hosts and correspondents is quite extensive and contains a mix of both online personalities and entertainment reporters.
“Total Request Live,” which began on MTV in 1998 with Carson Daly as the host, ended in 2008, but now, almost 10 years later, the network has decided it’s time for a reboot of the hit live series.
Airing from the iconic Times Square studio, the series will once again feature performances and interviews with hit artists of today, with the show’s hosts bringing it all together. While Daly will not be returning as host, MTV has snagged quite a few stars who millennials watching the show will likely recognize.
DC Young Fly
The 25-year-old Atlanta native started making comedic videos on Vine of himself roasting celebrities, and he also began posting videos to YouTube, as well. Besides social content, he’s also a rapper and an actor. He’s been on Nick Cannon’s “Wild ‘N Out” and was in the 2016 film “Almost Christmas.”
Erik Zachary
While he’ll be hosting a show on TV this time around, hosting in general is nothing new for Zachary as he’s an on-air host for 103.5 Kiss FM in Chicago, which is a radio station that’s part of the iHeartMedia family.
Amy Pham
An actress since 2011, with her film and TV career really kicking off in 2016 with a starring role in the TV series “Confess,” Pham is set to take on the role of host for the “TRL” reboot. Besides acting and hosting, she’s also a DJ who has performed with many of today’s top artists.
Tamara Dhia
Dhia is no stranger to the world of interviewing celebrities and being in the middle of pop culture as she’s coming to MTV after working for Complex. An opportunity she’s extremely excited about.
“When I was a kid, I used to watch @TRL religiously,” she captioned a photo on Instagram to announce she’s joined the MTV family. “I would pretend to be a ‘VJ’ alongside Carson Daly and LaLa using the TV remote as my microphone. My brothers would make fun of me but I didn’t care. Fast forward to 2017, not only is it back but I am now a ‘TRL’ host standing on this stage where so many iconic pop culture moments happened. I can’t believe this is real life. My dream has now become a reality and I’m so damn grateful that after all those years what people said was true...hard work pays off.”
Lawrence Jackson
From one hosting gig to the next. That’s what Jackson’s doing as he’s going from being an on-air host for RevoltTV to now an on-air host for the new “TRL.”
Along with the five hosts, “TRL” will have six correspondents who will contribute content and help entertain both the in-person and at-home audiences. Meet them all right here.
Gigi Gorgeous
As a transgender female internet celebrity, Gigi uses her voice to raise awareness to transgender issues and to inspire others with her story. She rose to internet fame with her YouTube channel, which now has almost 3 million subscribers.
Eva Gutowski
Known by her online namesake mylifeaseva, Gutowski has over 8 million suscribers to her YouTube channels where she posts vlogs, hauls, health and travel videos and any other topics she feels like discussing with her followers.
Gabbie Hanna
Starting off on Vine with her short comedy videos, Hanna took those followers and brought them over with her to YouTube where continued to climb the social ranks of the online celebrity world with her humor.
“Exciting news! You’re looking at A PROUD NEW MEMBER OF THE MTV FAMILY!! That’s right, this girl RIGHT HERE will be hosting @TRL starting October,” she captioned an Instagram photo announcing her partnership with MTV. “I’ve been saying for YEARS that my dream was to be an MTV on air host and my strangely specific dreams has somehow fallen into my little-suffocated-by-ripped-jeans-begging-for-air lap.”
Liza Koshy
Not only is Koshy a YouTube personality with over 11 million subscribers, but she’s also recently entered the world of acting, starting in 2016 with Hulu’s sci-fi teen series, “Freakish.”
The Dolan Twins (Ethan and Grayson Dolan)
These brothers rose to fame as a comedy duo on Vine before bringing their content to YouTube, garnering more than 4 million subscribers to their mutual account.
“YO! the big announcement is here. WE ARE GOING TO BE ON TV ON MTV. TRL is back and we are on it:) very happy to be working with mtv_ AHHHHHHH SO EXCITED.. I think you guys are gonna like this,” they wrote on their mutual Instagram account.
