Meet Sasha Farber, Nastia Liukin's Possible Partner If Derek Hough Quits ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Poor Derek Hough. The “Dancing With the Stars” pro might have to quit Season 20 after he suffered injuries on both of his feet. So if Hough’s out of the competition, who will gymnast Nastia Liukin dance with? It might not be who most people think.

Liukin and Hough have a long distance-style relationship. While he performs at Radio City Music Hall's "New York Spring Spectacular" for a portion of the week, she trains with troupe member Henry Byalikov. But that’s not the person who will replace Hough, if he is forced to drop out.

Cue Sasha Farber. Even though he’s appeared on “DWTS” in the past, most “DWTS” fans are much more familiar with Hough -- because winning five Mirror Bowl trophies normally helps notoriety. But back to Farber.

The dancer, 31, was born in Russia and raised in Australia, the Baltimore Sun wrote. He explained he got into dancing when he was “13 or 14” and the girls attracted his eye. When he won his first competition, he realized he found something he loved.

He danced with Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi during Season 17. The couple was voted off in Week 7, which left Snooki in tears.

There’s always rumors of romance on “DWTS,” and Farber was hit by cupid’s arrow. He dated fellow “DWTS” pro Emma Slater, but the two split in 2014. Still, his ex had good things to say about him when she sat down for an interview with Glamour magazine.

“He’s just the best person. I don’t think we’re supposed to finish together. I think there are other people that might make us both individually happy, but I’m always going to be his best friend,” Slater said. “It has just happened in the way we have gone from a beautiful three-year relationship, which I love and cherish, to best friends.”

Rumors that Farber might replace Hough erupted after the pro released an official statement to Yahoo News about his injury: "While it remains unclear at this time if Derek will be able to perform on the Monday, April 27, episode of 'Dancing With the Stars,' his partner Nastia Liukin will train in Los Angeles this week with pro-dancer Sasha Farber to prepare for the Live show."
