Mega Millions $400 Million Jackpot Drawing On Friday The 13th: How And Where To Play For Second-Largest Jackpot Ever

The Mega Millions lottery jackpot rose to $400 million after an unsuccessful drawing on Tuesday, making it the second-largest prize in the game’s history.

The jackpot climbed to near-record heights after Tuesday’s $344 million drawing failed to produce a winner. Five individuals correctly selected five of the six numbers, and were awarded $1 million each. The winning numbers were 5, 12, 22, 41, 65 and 13, according to the Mega Millions website.

The current $400 million jackpot is the second-largest prize in Mega Millions history, according to the game’s website. It is also the fifth-largest lottery jackpot in the history of North America. The largest-ever Mega Millions jackpot was $656 million, split between three individuals in March 2012.

“The strong sales of Mega Millions tickets mean more than just an exciting jackpot,” Paula Otto, executive director of the Virginia Lottery and lead director for the Mega Millions group, said in a press release. “They mean greater profits to benefit each state in which Mega Millions is played.”

The next drawing for the Mega Millions $400 million jackpot will be held this Friday, Dec. 13, at 11 p.m. ET. While Friday the 13^th is traditionally associated with bad luck, a $400 million prize is a great way to reverse that trend.

If Friday’s drawing produces a winner, that person would have the right to receive the full jackpot in 30 annual installments, or they can elect to receive a one-time cash payout of $216.4 million before taxes, according to the Mega Millions website.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are about one in 259 million. However, the odds of winning some sort of cash prize are one in 15.
