No one took home the $447 million Mega Millions jackpot on Tuesday night’s lottery drawing, sending the jackpot up to a record estimated $490 million – the eighth-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.

While the big jackpot remained untouched, there were several instant millionaires of the evening. One player secured $2 million by matching the Match and 2X Megaplier, and a total of four players won $1 million each for matching the Match 5 play. The players were from California, Minnesota, New Jersey, and New York.

The winning Mega Million numbers pulled on Tuesday, Jan. 5, were 20, 43, 51, 55, 57, with the 2X Megaplier being 4. Watch the winning lottery numbers being drawn below.

Tuesday’s jackpot was worth a total of $447 million with a cash option of $339.6 million.

Beyond the five instant millionaires in Tuesday night’s lottery drawing, there were eight players that won $20,000 for matching the Match 4 and 2X Megaplier, and 51 people won $10,000 for the Match 4 and Megaplier ball.

Several other players won smaller prizes on Tuesday that ranged from $1,000 to $2. A total of 1,292,423 people won $2 for have the Megaplier while 198 players won $1,000 for the Match 4 and 2X Megaplier.

Friday’s lottery drawing, however, is estimated to be worth even more. It is valued at $490 million with a cash option of $372.3 million.

According to the lottery, if someone wins Friday night’s drawing, it would be the 16th January since Mega Millions began in May 2002 that a player won the jackpot in the month. This would include three of the lottery’s biggest prizes, including a $451 jackpot in January 2018, a $437 million jackpot in January 2019, and a $380 million jackpot in January 2011.

In 2020, Mega Millions had a series of big winners. Most recently, a player from Wisconsin won $120 million ($95.4 million cash) on Sept. 15.

Other players won big jackpots of $414 million ($319.9 million cash) on June 9, $123 million ($100.1 million cash) on July 24, and $22 million ($17.9 million cash) on July 31. A New Jersey resident also won $202 million ($412.6 million cash) in February 2020.

The Mega Millions lottery offers cash prizes that range in value from $2 all the way up to the current estimated jackpot.

The next winning numbers will be pulled on Friday, Jan. 8, at 11 p.m. EST.
