One player managed to become an instant millionaire after the latest Mega Millions drawing.
A player from Florida hit the Match 5, winning $1 million. If the player would have hit the Match with the 2X Megaaplier, they would have put their winnings for the night at $2 million.
The next Mega Millions drawing will be worth an estimated $135 million, with a cash option of $98.5 million. The number will be drawn on Friday.
Aside from the lone millionaire from the night, several other monetary prizes resulted from the latest lottery drawing. There were 12 Match 4 plus gold Mega Ball winners who took home $10,000 each.
Meanwhile, only four players were able to match four numbers plus the gold Mega Ball with a Megaplier purchase, winning a $50,000 prize. The other wins from the night ranged between $2 and $1,000.
The latest lottery drawing comes after Google released its top trending searches of 2021 in the U.S., naming Mega Millions as the sixth most searched topic of the year.
At the beginning of the year, the jackpot hit $1.05 billion during the Jan. 22, 2021 drawing. The grand prize was claimed by four members of the Wolverine FLL Club from Michigan.
The group chose to take the lump-sum payment of $776 million, which came out to around $557 million after taxes.
The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350. Lottery winners have the option to receive their winnings through a one-time lump sum payment or an annuity.
Players that choose the annuity receive one immediate payment, followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% every year.
Mega Millions can be played in 45 states, as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia.
