The next Mega Millions drawing, which is worth an estimated $99 million with a cash option of $56.5 million, will be drawn on Friday, Aug. 19 at 11 p.m. ET.
The latest drawing saw a player from Nebraska win a $1 million prize after hitting the Match 5. If the player would have hit the Match 5 with the Megaplier, the prize would have doubled to $2 million.
Aside from the lone instant millionaire of the night, there were several smaller monetary prizes awarded. There were seven Match 4 plus gold Mega Ball winners that walked away with $10,000 each following the latest drawing.
One of those players was able to hit the Match 4 plus gold Mega Ball with the Megaplier and won a $20,000 prize. Other wins from the night ranged between $2 and $1,000.
The latest Mega Millions jackpot will continue to grow until a winner is selected. However, throughout the game's history, three jackpots have gone unclaimed.
The last time a jackpot went unawarded was in August 2006, when no one claimed a $31 million winning ticket sold in Queens.
A ticket worth $46 million was bought in Brooklyn in 2003 and was never claimed. One year prior, a $68 million ticket went unclaimed.
Jackpot winners can receive their grand prize winnings through either a one-time lump sum payment or an annuity. Those who opt for the annuity receive one immediate payment, followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.
Mega Millions can be played in 45 states as well as the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
