The jackpot will climb to an estimated $1.35 billion with a $707.9 million cash value since the latest prize went unclaimed. If the grand prize is claimed in the next lottery drawing, it would be the second-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.
The next jackpot drawing will be held Friday, Jan. 13. Despite its association with bad luck, Friday the 13th has historically been a rewarding day for Mega Millions players, with six previous jackpots won on the day.
Following the latest lottery drawing, 16 players across the country became instant millionaires. Three players from Connecticut, Florida, and New York hit the Match 5 with the Megaplier and won $3 million each. The remaining 13 players only matched five numbers and walked away with $1 million each.
A whopping 215 ticket holders hit the Match 4 and won a $10,000 prize. However, 41 of those players purchased the Megaplier and increased their prize to $40,000 apiece.
The other wins of the night ranged between $2 and $1,500. More than 6.1M winning tickets at all prize levels were sold following the latest lottery drawing.
Mega Millions jackpot winners can receive their grand prize through either a one-time lump sum payment or an annuity. Those who opt for the annuity receive one immediate payment, followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.
Mega Millions can be played in 45 states as well as the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
