  • Meghan Markle dropped a teaser for her upcoming podcast on Spotify Thursday
  • The teaser came as Prince William and Kate Middleton kicked off the final leg of their Caribbean tour
  • Some social media users questioned the timing of Markle's podcast update

Meghan Markle surprised fans this week with the release of a teaser for her upcoming podcast, but some social media users questioned the timing of the update for her new venture.

On Thursday, Spotify revealed the title of the podcast that the Duchess of Sussex will be hosting: "Archetypes." The streamer also dropped an audio trailer in which Markle teased what fans can expect from her project and the types of guests who will appear throughout the debut season.

However, some Twitter users accused Prince Harry's wife of trying to steal the limelight from Prince William and Kate Middleton, who are currently on an eight-day tour of the Caribbean to mark Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee year, which celebrates her 70 years on the throne.

"Let’s pretend this is *completely* unrelated to Kate’s coverage in the Caribbean tour," one Twitter user commented.

"Strange that the timing of her announcement just happens to coincide with the Cambridge Commonwealth tour…" another wrote.

"If it's intended to take the spotlight off [William and Kate], it's hard to think of a more yawn-inducing way of doing it," a third online user wrote.

Sussex supporters quickly came to Markle's defense, saying that the duchess' podcast launch had nothing to do with Prince William and Middleton's royal tour. They also expressed excitement over the upcoming podcast.

"Meghan should be able to release information as she pleases. [William and Kate's] tour has nothing to do with what is going on in America. NOTHING. If [Meghan] announcing her podcast information overshadows a royal tour then...hmm!" one Sussex fan commented.

"[The podcast] completely suits Meghan, and the topic is completely up my alley. I'm really looking forward to listening and learning more about the history behind the stereotypes," another fan wrote.

"Looking forward to this immensely. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is so well-spoken and articulate. When compared to her @SuitsPeacock character, both focus on intelligence, but her real-life conversations are beyond highly intelligent. The Firm truly lost an amazing asset," a third user wrote.

The podcast was first announced by an Archewell Audio spokesperson on March 17.

In the teaser for "Archetypes," which hits Spotify this summer, Markle said her podcast will "dissect, explore, and subvert the labels that try to hold women back."

"I'll have conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives. And I'll talk to historians to understand how we even got here in the first place," explained the royal, who has a long history of activism for women's rights.

Meanwhile, Prince William and Middleton kicked off the final leg of their Caribbean tour Thursday with a visit to the Bahamas.

During their visit, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will take part in The Bahamas Platinum Jubilee Sailing Regatta in Nassau, People reported.

They will also meet with one of the winners of Prince William's Earthshot Prize, Coral Vita, on Grand Bahama Island and see their ground-breaking ideas for restoring and preserving reefs.

The royal couple will wrap up their Caribbean tour Saturday.
