Meghan Markle Allegedly Threatened Prince Harry With Breakup If He Didn't Do This, New Book Claims

Prince Harry reportedly "freaked out" after Meghan Markle allegedly gave him an ultimatum while they were dating, a new royal book has claimed.

The London Times' royal correspondent Valentine Low claimed in his upcoming book, "Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown," that the former "Suits" star allegedly threatened Prince Harry that she would break up with him if he didn't publicly announce she was his girlfriend. International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

In an extract from Low's book published by The Times, the veteran royal reporter quoted an unnamed source as saying: "[Meghan] was saying, 'If you don't put out a statement confirming I'm your girlfriend, I'm going to break up with you.'"

Another unnamed source reportedly told Low that Prince Harry "was freaking out, saying, 'She's going to dump me,'" according to the book.

In response to her alleged demand, Prince Harry reached out to Kensington Palace communications secretary Jason Knauf and asked him to release a statement confirming that Markle was his girlfriend and condemning the racist and sexual undertones of some media coverage against her, Low claimed.

The book claimed that Markle wanted public validation that what she and Prince Harry had was a "serious relationship." She was reportedly concerned that Buckingham Palace would not protect her from "media intrusion" and social media trolls unless it was announced they were dating, according to the tome.

After their relationship was made public in 2016, an unnamed source told Low that Markle told Prince Harry's staff, "I know how the Palace works. I know how this is going to play out. You don't care about the girlfriend."

Low claimed that royal staff noticed Markle was different from Prince Harry's previous girlfriends because she was opinionated and would let people know what she thought.

The royal correspondent wrote in his book that in 2017, six months before the couple got engaged, Markle allegedly told one of Prince Harry's advisers, "I think we both know I'm going to be one of your bosses soon."

Low also claimed that when Markle was gently advised in late 2017 to go easy on her and Prince Harry's staff, she is said to have replied, "It's not my job to coddle people."

Knauf filed a bullying complaint against Markle in 2018 before resigning and being hired by Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Last year, Buckingham Palace opened an investigation into the allegations that Markle bullied royal staffers but said this summer that it would not publicize the findings.

Markle has denied all allegations of bullying and harassment, which made headlines just days before her and Prince Harry's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Prince Harry and Markle tied the knot on May 19, 2018. They stepped down from royal duties and moved to California less than two years later.
