Pregnant Meghan Markle made a surprise appearance at the 2018 British Fashion Awards on Monday, and she made quite the splash.

The Duchess of Sussex was there to present Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy with the British Womenswear Designer of the Year award. This was important to Markle because Keller designed the wedding dress she wore during her May wedding to Prince Harry.

At the 2018 British Fashion Awards, she wore her hair in a tight, slicked-back updo and, of course, dressed in a Givenchy gown. What was surprising, though, was the style of dress. The mom-to-be wore a one-shoulder black dress, which was an unusual choice for a royal.

Aside from baring her shoulder, Markle also went against the usual royal ways with her nail polish color. The former “Suits” actress donned a dark purple color on her nails, even though it’s been reported that light-colored nail polish is part of the family’s dress code.

Along with showing off her Givenchy attire at the event, Markle also showed off her growing baby bump while on stage. While up there, she gave a speech, as well. “It is such an honor to be here celebrating British fashion and British fashion designers in my new home of the U.K.,” Markle said, according to People in a post with photos of her at the event.

After she finished, it was time for Keller to go up to accept the award. “I got to know Meghan on such a personal level,” the designer said, according to the outlet. “To have someone like that trust you in an incredible moment in their life is something that is just the most unbelievable honor. I can’t thank you enough because it was the most beautiful moment.”

Overall, it was quite the surprise that Markle showed up at the event, but hopefully she makes some more surprise appearances in the future.
