Meghan Markle Can't Wear This Basic Maternity Clothing When She Gets Pregnant
Meghan Markle will have to follow the royal dress code even when she gets pregnant.
Many are looking forward to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's baby announcement. When the time comes, the former "Suits" actress will have a limited choice of wardrobe.
According to Isabella Sullivan, a journalist for Daily Express, Markle will not be able to wear tracksuit bottoms - a staple wardrobe for pregnant women. This outfit is very comfortable, but doesn't have a place within the royal dress code.
The royals have a strict dress code especially when they make public appearances. Thus, Markle can't wear what normal pregnant women often use like comfortable and baggy clothes.
When Kate Middleton was pregnant with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, she stuck with the royal protocol. The Duchess of Cambridge was often seen in casual maternity dresses and pair it with a jacket or cardigan.
For instance, in January, when Middleton was still expecting Prince Louis, she visited Reach Academy in Feltham, west London, in a floral print Seraphine dress. The duchess paired it with a midnight-blue Hobbs coat and matched it with black heels.
Seraphine is one of Middleton's go-to-brands for maternity dresses. The royal mom of three, who is popular for recycling dresses, also rewears her maternity outfits.
In fact, the dress she wore at the Reach Academy was recycled. Middleton was first seen in that wardrobe in 2015 when she was still pregnant with Princess Charlotte.
In related news, Markle will have to follow a number of royal practices when she becomes pregnant. For instance, she will wait for her delivery to know the baby's gender and will have to inform the Queen first about the baby's birth.
Markle will also be prohibited from traveling abroad. Just like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's children, her kids will be given multiple names too.
In addition, Markle will not be able to follow the popular American tradition of having baby showers. The royal babies don't need any present and the family finds this occasion unnecessary.
A lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate... there's nothing they can't go out and buy themselves," Victoria Arbiter said while pointing out that the gifts given for the baby must be "respectfully returned."
