Meghan Markle Effect Praised, Has ‘Huge Reach, International Impact’, Australian Designer Says
Meghan Markle’s impact in the fashion industry has been praised.
Last year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Australia. During their official tour, Markle donned several outfits by local designers. One of the outfits she wore was the $1,290 navy folded sail dress by Dion Lee.
The designer shared that he and his team created the ensemble with Markle’s team. Lee also revealed that they learned that Markle wore the frock when they saw her on TV while watching the news.
A year after the successful tour, Lee spoke how Markle helped boost their brand. According to him, the duchess wearing his design was a “great way to introduce the brand around the world.” He added that Markle’s “Meghan Markle effect” caused his website to crash as soon as the fashion enthusiasts spotted Markle using it.
“It definitely has a huge reach and an international impact,” Lee said.
“The Australian customer who knows about the brand was dying to get hold of the dress, but it was a great way to introduce the brand to many people around the world as well.”
The Dion Lee brand was catapulted to global attention after the Duchess of Sussex wore its sleek navy blue dress when she visited Melbourne Government House last year. The brand received over 600 enquiries for pre-order and their following on Instagram increased by 5,000.
“It's a whole other level. I can't say our website has ever crashed as a result of anyone wearing our clothes. The dress was custom made for Meghan Markle and will now go into production in the Resort 2019 collection.”
In related news, Ashley Cole’s brother reacted to Markle’s statement saying that the footballer was keen on trying to talk to her on Twitter. The duchess said that the athlete was “trying really hard” to date her.
“It’s nonsense, completely made up. He definitely wouldn’t have to beg Meghan Markle for a date,” Matty Cole told The Sun. “She’s not the kind of girl he goes for anyway, and he’s never fancied her.”
