Meghan Markle Engagement Ring: Royal Jewelers Refuse To Make Replicas For Clients
Meghan Markle’s adoring fans won’t be able to own a ring that’s similar to the engagement ring she received from Prince Harry.
Stephen Connelly, the director of court jeweler Cleave and Company, revealed that they were shocked with the rising demand on rings that are similar to Markle’s.
Unfortunately, Connelly also said that they have declined their clients’ requests to create a replica of Markle’s ring. However, they offered to design a unique piece for their customers.
During their first sit down interview as an engaged couple, Prince Harry revealed that he personally designed the engagement ring with his late mom Princess Diana’s diamonds.
Former Crown Jeweler, David Thomas, who helped put together Prince Harry’s idea for the engagement ring, previously said that keeping it a secret from everyone was so difficult. Thomas said that the press has bombarded him with questions especially regarding the prince of the ring.
“Jewelers are like doctors: we never discuss our patients,” he said (via Vanity Fair).
Meanwhile, the Meghan Markle Effect has also evident when it comes to clothing. Following her first public engagement on Dec. 1, fans of Markle saw the “Suits” alum carrying a Strathberry bag. Immediately after the sighting, the demand for the same accessory skyrocketed.
“The interest in the brand has been incredible. The phones began ringing constantly and our visitor numbers on our website were up by around 5,000 percent,” Strathberry spokesperson Leeanne Hundleby told People.
Three thousand people are waiting for an update for when Markle’s Strathberry bag becomes available. The brand said that they will restock mid-January.
LINE The Label, a clothing brand, also experienced a surge in their sales after Markle was spotted wearing their white wrap-style coat. “It was gone in seconds. We are now dealing with the aftermath because everyone is trying to get it, but I don’t want 10,000 white coats out there – it has to stay exclusive,” John Muscat, president and co-founder of the brand said.
The same white coat will be available by spring 2018, but only in limited capacity. It will be renamed as “The Meghan.”
