Meghan Markle Had 'An Easier Ride' Compared To Princess Diana, Royal Biographer Says
KEY POINTS
- Prince Harry is as fiercely protective as Meghan Markle when it comes to their kids' privacy
- The Duke of Sussex is in combat mode whenever the paparazzi try to snap his children
- Markle doesn't know if it's safe to reach out to her dad as she fears he might sell the story to the tabloids
Meghan Markle had an easier royal life experience compared to Princess Diana because of her husband Prince Harry, according to a royal biographer.
British author Andrew Morton, who helped Princess Diana release her biography, compared Prince Harry's mother and wife. In his updated book "Meghan and the Unmasking of the Monarchy," which was re-released Tuesday, he said the late Princess of Wales' life with the royals was more difficult compared to what the Duchess of Sussex experienced.
Morton said Markle is very protective of her children, Archie, 2, and 4-month-old baby Lili. Fortunately, her husband is on the same page as her when it comes to keeping their kids' privacy.
"[When it comes to paparazzi], Harry goes into combat mode," Morton told Fox News. "He has instantly sued various agencies. One company even filed for Chapter 11. He will go above and beyond to protect his family. Meghan has had an easier ride than Diana ever did."
Markle's estranged dad, Thoma Markle Sr., has voiced his interest in meeting his grandchildren with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. At one point, he said he would take the matter to court, and Markle's half-sister Samantha supported the idea. However, Thomas had a change of heart and said he would just wait for Prince Harry and Markle to bring their kids to him, but Morton believed chances are slim that it would happen because the duchess doesn't trust her dad.
"When it comes to Meghan, there’s just a complete lack of trust," Morton said of the father and daughter's relationship. "She just doesn’t know that, if she were to reach out, if that will result in Thomas immediately going out and selling the story to tabloids. She can’t risk it. And it’s very sad because the reality is, Thomas isn’t getting any younger. And he has yet to meet his grandchildren."
Thomas sent his daughter a bouquet of flowers on her 40th birthday in August, but he didn't hear back from her. The bouquet featured a dozen red roses with two yellows in the middle to represent her children, Archie and Lili. It also came with a personalized card that read, "Wishing you a happy birthday and brighter days."
