Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton Honor Queen Elizabeth II By Wearing Jewelry Gifted By Former Monarch
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Kate, Princess of Wales, honored Queen Elizabeth II during the London service Wednesday.
The Duchess of Sussex -- who was spotted in a car with Sophie, Countess of Wessex, going to Westminster Hall from Buckingham Palace -- was seen wearing pearl earrings, which was gifted to her by the late Queen.
Queen Elizabeth II gifted these earrings to the Duchess of Sussex in 2018, when they took a trip together to Cheshire, northwest England.
A Twitter user shared two photos, including the recent picture of the Duchess of Sussex wearing the earrings during the service, and another from their trip to northwest England.
These earrings also seemed special because the former monarch used to wear similar ones, but they appear to be bigger compared to what Duchess of Sussex was gifted. In the photo shared on Twitter in June 2018, the queen can be seen wearing similar earrings.
The Princess of Wales, on the other hand, also honored the late monarch during the service by wearing a brooch, which was previously owned by the queen.
While Duchess of Sussex was in the car with Countess of Wessex, Princess of Wales was spotted leaving the Buckingham Palace with Camilla, Queen Consort.
According to The Court Jeweller, the pearl leaf brooch was first worn by the queen in April 1999 during her Seoul, South Korea, visit. After two decades, the Princess of Wales was spotted wearing this brooch for the first time in Belgium. She visited the European country with her husband, Prince of Wales, in 2017.
The Princess of Wales didn't just honor the late monarch, but also late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, as she completed her look by wearing pearl drop earrings. These earrings were gifted to Princess Diana before she got married to King Charles III in 1981.
During the service, the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex were looking emotional as Queen Elizabeth's coffin arrived at Westminster Hall, where it will stay for four days, according to the Royal Family's official website.
"Prior to the State Funeral, The Queen will Lie-in-State in Westminster Hall for four days, to allow the public to pay their respects," the statement reads. "The Queen's Coffin currently rests in the Ballroom at Balmoral Castle."
