Prince Harry got candid about how being a royal affected his wife, Meghan Markle, after they got married.

The Duke of Sussex made a guest appearance on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast Thursday. During their conversation, Prince Harry said his wife was aware that her life would change after marrying into the royal family, but she was also expecting that things would be fair.

"[But] I think she said before she expected it to be fair [marrying into the royal family]," Prince Harry told Shepard, as quoted by Elle.

After being part of the royal family, the duke said his wife developed this perspective, "You don’t need to be a princess. You can create the life that will be better than any princess."

During Prince Harry and Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired in March, the duchess said the palace promised to protect her. However, she didn’t feel that she was being protected because no one spoke up to defend her from the fake news that circulated about her.

During the CBS special, Markle denied the reports that she made her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, cry. Instead, she said, "The reverse happened."

Markle said it was true that it happened during the bridesmaids’ dress fitting. The Duchess of Cambridge had been upset about something and hurt Markle's feelings, but Middleton had already apologized and sent her flowers and a note, according to the former actress. Markle said she has already forgiven Middleton and called the future queen consort a “good person.”

Prince Harry also recalled the time they started dating and how they kept their romance low-key while at the supermarket. The duke said they maintained their distance from each other and were just texting while inside the store as he tried to remain incognito.

"The first time that Meghan and I met up for her to come and stay with me, we met up in a supermarket in London, pretending that we didn't know each other, so we were texting each other from the other side of the aisles," Prince Harry shared.

"There were people looking at me, giving me all these weird looks and coming up to me and saying ‘hi’ or whatever. I was there, texting her, saying ‘is this the right one,’ and she said, ‘no, you want parchment paper,’ and ’I’m like, ‘okay, where's the parchment paper?!’ So it was nice. I had a baseball cap on, looking down at the floor…trying to stay incognito."

In the same interview, Prince Harry said that Markle was also the one who urged him to get therapy. But Markle said during their interview with Winfrey that Buckingham Palace denied her request when she asked for help for her mental health.
