Meghan Markle continues to face criticism due to her extravagant baby shower.

Sky News presenter Adam Boulton questioned Markle’s intentions in marrying Prince Harry in a ferocious tirade and accused the Duchess of Sussex that she only joined the royal family to increase her celebrity status. Boulton joins a growing list of royal experts who don’t approve of the pregnant royals’ lavish baby shower.

“She is married into the royal family because she wants to enhance her celebrity,” Boulton said.

Boulton’s guests, Guardian columnist Jane Martinson and Brexit central editor Jonathan Isaby, didn’t support the presenter’s line of thoughts. According to Martinson, it was “unromantic” of Boulton to say so, adding that Markle could have just fallen in love with Prince Harry and didn’t necessary marry him to become more famous.

When Boulton asked Martinson if she really doesn’t think the same, she responded that Markle’s move to join the royal family “might have helped” in her popularity. She also added that she doesn’t have friends who could spend $433,059 for a baby shower.

On the other hand, Isaby recognized Markle as an independent woman who wanted to keep up her friendships. He believes that it’s perfectly reasonable that the Duchess of Sussex to be allowed to do so.

Boulton suggested that Markle and her friends could have used the money to save the elephants or for a better cause. He rests his case by saying that they are free to do what they want but for him, they are all “tiresome.”

“I’m just saying to me, of course, they’re free to do it and the taxpayer hasn’t paid but it’s all a bit unbecoming,” Boulton said. “I’m just saying they’re all tiresome.”

Royal commentator Angela Levin also didn’t approve of Markle’s costly baby shower which she deemed as an “exhibition of extravagance at a time of national hardship.” She encouraged Prince Harry to contradict and warn his wife if necessary because while Prince William’s brother doesn’t want to be a celebrity, his wife is doing the exact opposite. In fact, her baby shower is more “celebrity” than “royal.”

The issue plaguing Markle has also brought the Queen and Duchess of Cambridge closer. Queen Elizabeth II turned to Kate Middleton for support amid Markle ‘s “reckless toying” of the royal family’s reputation.
