Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are already working on a multi-million revenue business.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced that they are quitting as senior members of the royal family. Prince Harry and Markle, who have been criticized by the public for using the taxpayers’ money to renovate their home, the Frogmore Cottage, also said that they will work to be “financially independent.”
According to Express, the royal couple is likely to earn as much as $500 million and more annually after leaving the royal family. This is possible by using the Sussex Royal brand for commercial deals and endorsements.
Prince Harry and Markle have already used the trademark on over 100 items including pencils, socks and bookmarks. The Sussexes also want to stamp their name on dozens of other products including hoodies, t-shirts, gloves and more. They started this six months before they announced their split from the royal family, Daily Mail first reported.
Andy Barr, retail expert and co-founder, commented on the trademarked brand. For him, there is no doubt that Prince Harry and Markle could make a multi-million revenue business with their brand. In fact, Prince Harry and Markle’s earnings are likely to be more than what Prince Charles makes from the Duchy estate. However, he found it ironic that the Sussex Royal is backed by the royal name, which the couple is seemingly trying to escape from.
“We would conservatively estimate that the ‘MegRy’ revenue will dwarf that of Prince Charles various Duchy business fortunes. With his revenue estimated to be £200m in the last year, we would not be surprised to see Harry and Meghan more than double that from scratch with their combined global appeal,” Barr added.
“As the brand they are building will automatically have global appeal, their revenue will grow even further. Once they make the move to the US, it will be interesting to see how the couple, without the full backing of the royal press office, fare against the American tabloids, who are notorious for being admirers of the British monarchy.”
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly furious and disappointed in the Sussexes for not consulting the senior members of the royal family about their plans. The members of the Firm only learned about Prince Harry and Markle’s decision to quit when it was reported on TV.
