Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Created Confusion Online; Pair Attacked After Posting Thanksgiving Greeting
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been hounded with several controversies since they sparked romance reports in July 2016. Despite all the criticisms and hate that they have been receiving, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to make a strong front, proving that they can survive all the challenges in life so long as they are together.
Recently, Meghan and Prince Harry were questioned again after posting a greeting on Instagram to celebrate Thanksgiving on Friday. “Wishing you VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING from OUR FAMILY to YOURS – Their ROTAL HIGHNESSES The DUKE and DUCHESS of SUSSEX,” the post read. Some netizens expressed their confusion as to why would the couple, who lives in Britain, celebrate an American holiday.
“I'll admit it. I'm confused. Which one are you again? Harry? Not the one I can never remember - Kate's husband - um Charles? No, he's the Prince of Wales. Well, there's an M - must be Queen Victoria!” Robin Snuttjer wrote in the comment section. “That's nice but we dont celebrate that here. Are you still the UK Royals or USA royals now?” another Instagram user said.
For starters, the United Kingdom does not celebrate Thanksgiving even if it is considered as a significant festival to celebrate. This is the reason why some netizens got confused about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s most recent Instagram post.
Other fans, however, took the opportunity to attack the couple who was supposed to be on a six-week break. “I thought you were taking a 6 week break yet here you are posting,” one commenter stated. “What happened to our 6 week vacation?” a fourth netizen wrote. "I wonder if Henry and Meghan are thankful for the family they came from," another user said.
Amid the backlash, avid followers of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry gave nothing but heartfelt messages for the couple. “Thank you for thinking of us Americans. I hope Meghan gets to share this American holiday and traditional meal with Harry and Archie,” Melissa Coulacos said. “Many continued blessings to you and yours,” Kate Massey stated.
Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Meghan and Prince Harry will be taking some time off in the coming weeks to spend private time as a family. The pair is said to be flying to the United States to celebrate Christmas with Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland, in her Los Angeles home.
“Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland,” an official statement from the Buckingham Palace read. “This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen,” it continued.
It remains unclear as to when would Meghan Markle and Prince Harry come back to the U.K. However, there have been reports saying that the couple might return to the public eye before the New Year.
