Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made shocking diplomatic blunder after visiting Ireland.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were Commonwealth Youth Ambassadors before they renounced their titles. They represented the Queen in various Commonwealth engagements when they were still working royals, but they made one serious mistake.
According to Caitlin McBride, the couple mistakenly considered their Ireland visit as a move to strengthen the Commonwealth when the country is not part of the association in contrast to a post on their website in January.
“Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have claimed their Irish mini-moon was an effort to strengthen the Commonwealth – even though Ireland is not a member of the group,” McBride wrote for Independent.ie.
The Commonwealth is an association with 53 states members. Nearly all of the countries in the group used to be territories of the British Empire. Ireland withdrew from the alliance in 1922 and was formally declared a republic in 1949 when it left the Commonwealth.
“The boast about their trip to Dublin in 2018 will likely be considered one of their first major diplomatic blunders since Ms Markle and Prince Harry announced plans to ‘step back from their roles within the Royal Family,” McBride continued.
Journalist Olivia Fahy of Evoke.ie criticized the couple for the mistake especially since they repeatedly emphasized that the Dublin trip was among the things they were most interested in as a royal couple.
“Considering how often they have championed the importance of the Commonwealth, you’d think they’d know that Ireland isn’t in it,” Fahy said. “It’s a shame to see as they are promoting themselves as moving to modernise the monarchy, but errors like this make them seem more in line with the old ways than they may think.”
Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton are currently on a three-day tour in Ireland. According to body language expert Judi James, the Duke of Cambridge was showing signs of anxiety during one outing. She said that it could be due to Middleton’s rumored pregnancy or Prince Harry’s return. However, she felt that it was more of the latter because the father of three must have found his upcoming reunion with his younger brother at the upcoming Commonwealth Day service difficult.
In related news, Middleton put an end to the pregnancy rumors during their outing by drinking beer — something thatpregnant women should avoid. Also, the duchess suffered from severe morning sickness in her first three pregnancies and if she were expecting, she won’t be as visible in public as she is at present.
