Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Reportedly Still Receive Money From UK Taxpayers, Expert Claims
KEY POINTS
- Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were reportedly given money by Prince Charles for their security
- A commentator slammed the couple and asked them to give U.K. taxpayers their money
- Markle and Prince Harry started paying for their Frogmore Cottage
When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry vacated their posts as senior members of the royal family, they did so in hopes of having “financial independence,” however, an expert now says the U.K. is still paying them a whopping amount despite staying in Los Angeles, California.
Charles Rae, a royal expert, told talkRADIO that Prince Charles has approved the allotment of around $2.4 million for Markle and Prince Harry’s security, Express reported.
“We are because at the moment Prince Charles is giving them £2 million a year. It is going to be looked at in 12 months. It is to help pay for some of that security so they are getting money,” Rae said.
Rae went on to say that the problem lies in the changes of plan because of the coronavirus pandemic. He further said that the Duchess of Sussex “ was presumably going to go back into showbiz ,” but that didn’t pan out because of what happened.
This claim comes a day after Markle and Prince Harry were criticized for their lifestyle in Los Angeles, where they are staying at Tyler Perry’s multimillion-dollar mansion in an exclusive neighborhood. Dawn Neeson, a columnist at Daily Star, said that the couple owes U.K. at least $3 million for the renovation of their Frogmore Cottage residence, another Express report noted.
The writer further slammed thoughts that there should be terms on the payment of Markle and Prince Harry for the expenses when the Sussexes are allegedly paying millions in their temporary house in Los Angeles.
"Just give us the money back now. It's not like the country doesn't need it at the moment, is it?" Neeson said.
After leaving the Kensington Palace and before the arrival of their baby, Archie, Markle and Prince Harry decided to stay at Frogmore Cottage. But because it was erected a long time ago, it needed extensive renovations – hence, the eye-popping amount. It is believed that the couple shelled out their own money for their furniture.
Meanwhile, of late, Markle and the Duke of Sussex have started paying for their British house, as what they have promised in January, with the Daily Mail reporting that the first sum was around $20,000.
