Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's son Archie is a big fan of her new children's book.

In an interview with NPR's "Weekend Edition" released Sunday, the Duchess of Sussex spoke about her 2-year-old son's reaction to "The Bench," Markle's illustrated picture book published this month that depicts the special relationship between father and son. The book was inspired by a poem she wrote for Prince Harry on his first Father's Day.

"Archie loves the book," Markle said in the interview, her first since her and Prince Harry's sit-down with Oprah Winfrey in March. "He has a voracious appetite for books and constantly when we read him a book he goes 'Again, again.'"

"Now the fact that he loves 'The Bench' and we can say, 'Mommy wrote this for you,' feels amazing," the proud mom added.

The duchess also shared that she kept Archie in mind when she was working on the book and made sure that every detail was perfect.

"Kids, they just pick up on everything and that was one of the pieces that I think was important for me. I knew our son would notice all those elements. And he loves it," she explained.

In the same interview, Markle shared that the book was also inspired by a "sentimental" gift she gave her husband on his first Father's Day celebration, weeks after they welcomed Archie in 2019.

Markle said she gifted Prince Harry a bench, which featured a plaque where her poem for him appears. She explained that she went for the nontraditional gift because she wanted "a place for him to have as a bit of a home base with our son."

Markle went on to describe her children’s book as a "love story that transcends the story of my family." She wanted the readers to understand that the book also reflected the growth of her relationship with her husband.

"It was definitely moments like that, watching them from out of the window and watching [my husband] just, you know, rock him to sleep or carry him or, you know ... those lived experiences, from my observation, are the things that I infused in this poem," Markle said about what moved her to create the book. "It's really just about growing with someone and having this deep connection and this trust so that, be at good times or bad, you know that you had this person."
