Meghan Markle will take on an important role when Prince William becomes king.

Grant Harrold, a former royal butler, told Express that Markle will one day be sister-in-law to the king.

“The Duchess of Sussex will have an important role to develop as one day she will be sister in law to the king. She will take on duties on behalf of the monarch as we see the Royals do today for the Queen,” he said.

Harrold also said that Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, will have big shoes to fill once the second in line to the throne becomes king.

“Both royal duchesses have important roles to fulfill. I imagine we will see more of the Duchess of Cambridge as she prepares for her future role as Queen,” said Harrold.

And it is possible that Markle, Middleton, and Prince William’s new roles will be given to them sooner. Paul Burrell, Princess Diana’s former butler, previously said that he doesn’t think Prince Charles will ever become king. If he gives up his right to the throne, Prince William will replace Queen Elizabeth II when she dies.

“I don’t think we will ever see King Charles and Queen Camilla on the throne of England. I know it’s his right, I know he’s heir to the throne, I know he’s waited his whole life to do it but his own wife said: ‘My husband is not fit for the job.’ Diana said that,” Burrell said (via Express).

“I don’t think he’ll get there. I think by the time the Queen dies – and she will live to be Queen as long as there is breath in her body – she will die aged 101, 102, or 103, maybe. Her mother was almost 102 when she died. Longevity is in the family. I think, for the sake of monarchy – by the time Charles gets there, he’s going to be 80,” he added.
