Meghan Markle Wasn’t Allowed To Do This At Wimbledon This Year
Meghan Markle was reportedly not allowed to wear a hat to Wimbledon this year even though she was able to do so when she attended the tournament two years ago.
At that time, Markle wore her favorite white Panama hat from Madewell. On Saturday, the Duchess of Sussex was photographed carrying a similar hat from Maison Mitchel, but she never wore the head accessory during the match.
Kara Godfrey, a journalist for Express, said that this is because there are some strict etiquette rules that need to be followed when watching from the Royal Box. Wearing hats can prohibit other attendees from seeing the game clearly. Last year, Markle watched Wimbledon and her good friend, Serena Williams, from outside the Royal Box.
On the Wimbledon website, it has been stated that “Protocol dress is smart, suits/jacket and tie, etc. Ladies are asked not to wear hats as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them.”
In related news, Markle also made headlines last weekend after she decided to wear an oversized Ralph Lauren blue and white striped shirt to Wimbledon. Her companion, Kate Middleton, opted to wear a dainty dress to the event.
Francesca Specter, another journalist for Express, criticized Markle’s top and said that the shirt was just too big for the Duchess of Sussex’s small frame. She also said that it looked as though Markle borrowed her attire from her husband Prince Harry.
Markle paired her Ralph Lauren long-sleeved blouse with her white trousers from the same brand. She also wore black stilettos to the match and kept her hair in a messy bun. Middleton, on the other hand, lets her hair down throughout the entire game.
Despite the criticism, it was evident that Markle had a blast at the Wimbledon this year. Her attendance also served as the first time that she and Middleton went to the tournament together.
