Meghan Markle's best friend, Jessica Mulroney, had a hard time coping with the backlash she faced after being labeled a racist by influencer Sasha Exeter, a report says.

In June, Markle's friend was called out by Exeter for allegedly using her "white privilege" to silence her and threatening her livelihood after she encouraged other social media influencers to use their platform to support the Black Lives Matter movement. Being "canceled" left the Canadian stylist "suicidal," especially since she has been battling anxiety, her friends told New York Post.

"Jessica has always been very open about dealing with anxiety since she was 12. But the anxiety turned into severe depression and suicidal thoughts," one source said.

The insider added that Mulroney's mom had to come over to look after her because she "couldn't talk without crying." She reportedly also didn't feel like herself when she was taking antidepressants and didn't want to talk to anyone. Mulroney couldn't even respond to the text messages sent to her, the source said.

Meanwhile, her husband, Ben Mulroney, reportedly told a friend, "I would wake up and Jess wouldn’t be in bed, and my mind would go to the worst."

Prior to the controversy, Mulroney enjoyed the spotlight due to her connection with the Duchess of Sussex. She is also a popular stylist who has worked with stars such as Mindy Kaling.

Addressing the controversy in an interview with The Post, Mulroney said she felt "a lot of shame."

"I still feel a lot of shame. I feel that people believe the worst in me," she added.

In June, Exeter, a Black single mom, exposed Mulroney's alleged "problematic behavior" after taking offense to her general call-to-arms for white influencers to speak out against anti-Black racism.

“Listen, I am by no means calling Jess a racist but what I will say is this, she is very well aware of her wealth, her perceived power and privilege because of the color of her skin. And that, my friends, gave her the momentary confidence to come for my livelihood in writing,” Exeter said in a video on Instagram.

Mulroney immediately apologized and said she was sorry for the hurt she caused to Exeter.

“I want to say from my heart that every word of my apologies to Sasha over the course of the last two weeks privately, and again both publicly and privately today is true,” she wrote on Instagram. “I did not intend in any way to jeopardize her livelihood. We had a disagreement and it got out of hand.”
