Meghan Markle's Half-Siblings React To Her Netflix Docuseries: 'Disturbing'
KEY POINTS
- Thomas Markle Jr. called the first three episodes of the "Harry & Meghan" docuseries "horrible"
- Meghan Markle's half-brother said it was "disturbing" for Prince Harry to say that his wife does not have a father
- Samantha Markle claimed Meghan lied to her niece that she could not invite her to her royal wedding
Meghan Markle's estranged half-siblings have hit out at her and Prince Harry's new Netflix docuseries.
In an interview on Talk TV's "Piers Morgan Uncensored," the duchess' half-brother Thomas Markle Jr. slammed the first volume of "Harry & Meghan," branding the content "horrible" and "disturbing."
Thomas Jr. took issue with a comment Prince Harry made about his wife's relationship with her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr.
In episode three of the series, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex discussed the family drama in the days leading up to their May 2018 wedding that led to the final breakdown of Meghan's relationship with her father.
Prince Harry blamed himself for Meghan's rift with her father, saying, "If Meg wasn't with me, then her dad would still be her dad. She had a father before this, and now she doesn't have a father. And I shouldered that."
In response to Prince Harry's statement, Thomas Jr. said: "I think it's horrible. The documentary is so far off on so many different levels, it's really a little bit disturbing."
"Saying that she doesn't have a family and she doesn't have a father, and Harry saying that she has no father now, that's just ridiculous," he continued. "She just basically brushed the entire family under the carpet like we don't exist, and then lied about not having a family."
Thomas Jr. said the content of the docuseries prompted him to reach out to his own production team, which is currently working on a counter-narrative.
In a separate interview, Meghan's half-sister Samantha Markle also hit back at the claims made about the Markle family in the docuseries, accusing the duchess of being dishonest.
In the first volume of "Harry & Meghan," the former "Suits" star claimed that she hadn't seen Samantha for a decade, but "suddenly it felt like she was everywhere" after Meghan got engaged to Prince Harry.
"I don't know your middle name, I don't know your birthday. I hadn't had a falling out with her. We didn't have a closeness to be able to have that and I wanted a sister," Meghan said in the show's third episode.
In response to Meghan's statement, Samantha said on GB News' "Dan Wootton Tonight": "That's been the rhetoric so far, and I think you know I was never out there saying that we were close. We had a normal relationship for older brothers and sisters with a younger sibling."
"It's pretty clear that my brother and I had a pretty normal life. But it wasn't until the time of the wedding that the media started to get to us. In other words, we didn't seek out the media. We were living our lives as quietly and privately, but the media found us," the author explained.
Meghan also said in the docuseries that she wanted to invite her niece, Samantha's estranged daughter Ashleigh Hale, to her royal wedding. But the duchess claimed that the "guidance" at the time was not to invite Ashleigh because her mother Samantha was not invited to the ceremony.
But Samantha claimed that the decision not to invite her daughter was made by Meghan herself rather than the royal family.
"Ashleigh was lied to, and my sister in fact was the one reportedly who told Ashleigh she couldn't go to the wedding," Samantha claimed. "So I felt like she was manipulating my daughter, and that's really sad because my daughter seemingly was holding a grudge and feeling like I was the reason she couldn't come to the wedding."
International Business Times could not independently verify Samantha's claims.
The first three episodes of "Harry & Meghan" are streaming on Netflix. The remaining three episodes will be dropped next week.
