Meghan Markle’s Letter To Dad ‘Edited’ To Mislead Readers; Publication Denies Allegations
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry filed a lawsuit against the publication that published the Duchess of Sussex’s private letters to her dad, Thomas Markle Sr.
The letters were released months ago amid reports that the “Suits” alum has cut ties with her dad.
Prince Harry released a statement regarding the lawsuit where he accused the media of playing a “game.” He also said that Daily Mail purposely edited the letters that Markle wrote by omitting certain paragraphs, removing single words and more.
“They purposely misled you by strategically omitting select paragraphs, specific sentences, and even singular words to mask the lies they had perpetuated for over a year,” Prince Harry said.
But shortly after, Daily Mail responded to the allegations and said that they are standing by what they published months ago.
“The Mail on Sunday stands by the story it published and will be defending this case vigorously. Specifically, we categorically deny that the Duchess’s letter was edited in any way that changed its meaning,” their statement read.
Earlier this year, Daily Mail revealed that Markle wrote the letters to her dad in August. The five-page letter was handwritten by the Duchess of Sussex.
“Daddy, it is with a heavy heart that I write this, not understanding why you have chosen to take this path, turning a blind eye to the pain you’re causing? Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces – not simply because you have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by making the choice to not tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this… Something that I will never understand,” Markle wrote.
The letter was shared with Daily Mail by Markle’s dad. It is unclear if a lawsuit will also be filed against the former lighting director. Markle has not spoken to her dad in months. Their falling out started before Prince Harry and Markle tied the knot on May 19, 2018.
