Meghan Markle has hinted on when her maternity leave will begin.

Royal correspondent for Vanity Fair Katie Nicholl said that the Duchess of Sussex told her royal aides that she wants to work as close to her due date as possible. Kensington Palace announced in October that Markle will give birth in the Spring of 2019.

If Markle will follow in Kate Middleton’s footsteps, she could start her maternity leave one month before giving birth. The Duchess of Cambridge went on a break sometime in March, and she gave birth to Prince Louis on April 23.

But it is also important to note that Markle and Middleton’s maternity leaves may differ because the mom of three suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum or extreme morning sickness during all of her pregnancies. Markle didn’t experience the same thing.

Nicholl also said that Markle could team up with at least one major charity before she gives birth to her baby. This means that the Duchess of Sussex will still have a very busy couple of months.

The source’s prediction came in the heels of reports that Markle is one of the least hardworking royals for 2018. Prince Harry’s wife only carried out 96 engagements last year, while Queen Elizabeth II carried out 283 official duties.

However, there are two valid reasons why Markle didn’t have as many engagements as the monarch or the other royals. The “Suits” alum just joined the royal family officially on May 19 after her wedding to Prince Harry at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

She also had to cut down on some of her engagements before and after her pregnancy was announced. While she was on her first overseas tour last year, Markle skipped at least two engagements because she needed to rest.

Middleton, on the other hand, only carried out 87 engagements last year. But this is because she went on six-month maternity leave. But despite the valid reasons, anti-monarchy group Republic slammed the younger generation of royals.

“How can the monarchy survive if the younger generation can’t be bothered to do even the light workload of their parents?” they told Express.
