Meghan Markle may be a royal, but she didn’t get into any official trouble for a “sexy” photo she took leading up to her wedding day.

After Markle chose to wear a sheer Ralph & Russo dress for a 2017 engagement photoshoot with then-fiancé Prince Harry, some senior royals deemed the outfit inappropriate. Though, as noted by Express last July, Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex, wasn’t scolded for her outfit choice.

“It is unlikely that anyone whispered in Prince Harry’s ear that such intimate, sexy photographs were perhaps not quite appropriate for a senior royal,” Angela Levin wrote in her book “Harry: Conversations With the Prince,” the outlet reported.

According to her findings, the couple may have been able to get away with the risque photograph and dress choice for several reasons, one being 98-year-old Prince Philip’s age. “The Duke of Edinburgh, who used to lay down the rules for his family, has stepped back since his retirement in August 2017 and aged ninety-six,” Levin wrote.

Similarly, Levin said that Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles, was unlikely to speak out on the matter “as he felt guilty about his relationship with the Princess of Wales.” The author also claimed that Prince Charles was “thrilled” that his youngest son had found a partner as years of being “miserable.”

And despite current talks of a rift between Prince Harry and Prince William, Levin also shared that the royal’s sibling wouldn’t likely discuss Markle’s fashion choice because “he too delights in his brother’s obvious happiness.”

While Markle may have faced some blowback from the dress she sported in the shots, their engagement shoot photographer, Alexi Lubormirski, said the dress wasn’t meant to cause controversy.

“To be honest, we tried on a couple of different things and that was just one that she felt comfortable in, so we weren’t really thinking, ‘Is it nude?’ or anything,” he told Entertainment Tonight in April 2018. “We just thought, ‘Feel comfortable and let’s make some nice pictures.’”
