Meghan Markle’s Was ‘Bullied’ And Received ‘Inexplicable’ Treatment Over Prince Harry Marriage

Since Meghan Markle married Prince Harry, she has received a ton of backlash from British tabloids. Recently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to take action against her attackers and filed a lawsuit against the Daily Mail for publishing a letter the 38-year-old wrote to her father, Thomas Markle.

Amid the latest wave of criticism, former US first lady, Hillary Clinton, and her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, have defended Meghan against the way she has been portrayed in the press.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, the former Secretary of State showed her support for Meghan and Harry’s decision to sue the media. “I do want to say that the way she’s been treated is inexplicable,” Clinton said.

“If the explanation is that she’s biracial, then shame on everybody,” she continued. During the conversation, Clinton went on to suggest that Meghan’s race is “certainly part of” the reason why she has been harshly criticized.

Chelsea went on to praise Meghan for continuing to following her passions, despite the obstacles she has faced in the press. “She proudly had a career first, and has a voice that she thankfully continues to use,” she shared.

“Anyone who has the temerity to break the mold of what has previously been established and expected often, unfortunately, receives criticism and bile that I don’t understand. We’ve seen this pattern repeatedly.” Chelsea continued.

Although the 39-year-old revealed she hasn’t met Meghan, she claimed the Duchess of Sussex has been an inspiration.

“I don’t know her, but as someone who respects her, I’m so grateful that she persists, and is unbowed, and is doing work she feels called to do. And isn’t willing to be bullied.”

On Oct. 1, Prince Harry announced his and Meghan’s decision to take legal action against the UK tabloids.

“Though this action may not be the safe one, it is the right one. Because my deepest fear is history repeating itself. I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person,” Harry said in the statement.

“I lost my mother, and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces. We thank you, the public, for your continued support. It is hugely appreciated. Although it may not seem like it, we really need it.”
