- The release date for the sophomore run of the show has not yet been announced
When “Queen of the Universe” returns for a second season, a new yet familiar face is making her debut on the judges’ panel.
Spice Girls member and multi-hyphenated entertainer Melanie Brown, also known as Mel B, has officially signed on to be part of the show’s sophomore run. She’s taking over the spot formerly held by singer Leona Lewis, Deadline reported Monday.
Brown is joining the three returning judges of Paramount+’s drag queen singing competition Michelle Visage, Trixie Mattel and Vanessa Williams. Season 1 host Graham Norton is also returning.
While it’s clear that Scary Spice is filling a seat left vacant by Lewis, there’s no mention of why the latter would not be returning for the second season.
Among the five members of the phenomenal British girl band, Mel B has established a thriving career as a television entertainer and theater performer.
She is no stranger to this type of reality show since she previously served as a judge on “The X Factor,” “The X Factor U.K.,” “America’s Got Talent,” “AGT: The Champions,” “Lip Sync U.K.” and the Australian edition of “Dancing with the Stars.”
“Queen of the Universe,” which premiered on Dec. 2, 2021, is an international karaoke competition pitting the world’s most talented drag queens against each other to find out who is ready for global domination. Country representatives battle it out for the spotlight on the show.
Contestants perform a new musical performance in front of a live audience each episode. The “Pop Diva Panel” of judges then rate their performance and decide who are moving forward. In the end, only one act will be crowned “Queen of the Universe.”
Fourteen queens from the U.S., Mexico, India, France, Denmark and more competed for the title in the first season of the show. Brazil’s representative Grag Queen emerged victorious in the finale, according to Variety.
The show is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and World of Wonder—the same producers behind “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
“Queen of the Universe” Season 2 was first announced in February. No official release date has been announced. The cast of Season 2 will also be revealed at a later date.
