Melania's Ex-Aide Looks To Dismiss Trump Administration Lawsuit After Publishing Tell-All Book
A former aide to first lady Melania Trump was sued in October by the Justice Department for a book she authored that allegedly violated a nondisclosure agreement. On Monday, the former aide filed a motion to dismiss the suit.
Stephanie Winston Wolkoff wrote, “Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship With the First Lady,” which included embarrassing details about Trump. Wolkoff's lawyers explained that the NDA was terminated even before she wrote the book, according to the Washington Post.
“...More than two years before any of the alleged violations and there is therefore no basis to claim that Ms. Wolkoff failed to comply with any contractual obligation,” said Wolkoff's legal team.
The Justice Department’s lawsuit explains that Wolkoff agreed to not publish or speak negatively about her time in the White House, as well as promised to not talk about her work with Trump.
The lawyers argued that Wolkoff has first amendment rights since her NDA expired after she left her role in 2018.
The Justice Department’s suit has sought to seize all profits Wolkoff made or will make from her tell-all novel.
Meanwhile, Wolkoff has provided documents to Washington, D.C.'s attorney general, who filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump's inaugural committee for misuse of non-profit funds.
