Melissa McCarthy Dissed on Twitter for Oscars Red Carpet Gown [PHOTOS]
Melissa McCarthy might have been everyone's favorite Bridesmaid at the 2012 Oscars, but she made very few favorite-lists after Sunday night's red carpet. The actress landed herself in almost every Worst Dressed group on Monday morning for her mauve, custom-made Marina Rinaldi gown with jeweled neckline and waist.
The Bridesmaids actress, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, took a lot of flak for her Oscars attire on Sunday night, with Twitter users taking to the social network to diss the 41-year-old.
I adore Melissa McCarthy but that dress is a disaster! tweeted Paper Mag's Mickey Boardman. Melissa McCarthy's dress is lovely ..I just feel bad for the Sultan who's missing his tent! #tweetroast wrote another Twitter critic. I love Melissa McCarthy, but think she must be going for comedy with that dress. Yikes, tweeted @realityblurred.
Others took to McCarthy's defense. We love that Bridesmaids actress Melissa McCarthy is wearing accessories from childhood friend @Brian_Atwood at the #Oscars! She looks great tweeted Net-a-porter. People calling Melissa McCarthy's dress appropriate, is completely inappropriate. The emphasis on weight disgusts me. Daily, tweeted @fancybuffalo.
E! News' Fashion Police correspondent Kelly Osbourne said, I am so excited to see how good she looks tonight. She changed it up completely and the color on her is great, the beadwork is great. It makes me so happy to see her looking so beautiful. But come Monday morning the actress was on E!'s Worst Dressed list. Melissa McCarthy had an amazing run on the red carpet this awards season, but her Marina Rinaldi custom-made gown just wasn't as fabulous or flattering as it could have been on her, wrote E! Online.
Perez Hilton managed to find the happy medium: Is it the best look we've ever seen her in? No, not really. She's done a lot better in the past. But what she lacks in style, she makes up for in sheer joy! Just look at her face! Though, on Sunday night he tweeted, It's okay to admit you did not like Melissa McCarthy's look. I did not. At all! #Oscars.
McCarthy told E! News' Ryan Seacrest that her Oscars ensemble had help from childhood friend, designer Brian Atwood, who sent her shoes and a handbag with a sweet note attached. My dear, dear friend Brian Atwood made my lovely handbag and fantastic shoes for me and wrote a message to me on the bottom, McCarthy told Seacrest. The inscription read To my best friend Melissa McCarthy followed by Oscars and Feb. 26, 2012. We've been dear friends since high school. I read the [note] and started crying.
But the funny-gal actress might not be as fashion-foolish as some may think.
She plans to take a break from her film promotion duties to started working on her own plus-sized clothing line, according to Us Weekly. I went to college for fashion and textiles. I'm really excited to start that this year. It's going to be fun, McCarthy said.
