'Men in Black 3' Official Trailer Releases: Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones Return in Time-Space Adventure
A new trailer for Men in Black 3, produced by Amblin Entertainment and Columbia Pictures, was released by the filmmakers Monday, showcasing franchise veterans Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, and introducing a new time-travel plot.
The trailer revealed new aliens, new sci-fi guns and weapons, and a few notable plot twists, including one where Agent J is told that his partner has actually been dead for 40 years. The plot of the film will have Agent J investigate his partner's death by using time travel devices to work alongside his partner in the past, who is played by Josh Brolin.
The film will be released on Memorial Day, or May 28, 2012, and will be presented in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D.
The Men in Black franchise seemingly ended in 2002 after the second film, Men in Black 2, fell flat. The plot of that film, which had Smith and Jones reprise their roles as government Agents J and K, respectively, had Agent J searching for help to restore the memory of his partner as the earth faced another threatening extraterrestrial force by the name of Serleena, played by Lara Flynn Boyle.
The third film will be released almost 10 years after the second movie and more than 13 years since the first film was released in 1997. The original film introduced a government agency known as the Men in Black, charged with keeping earth and alien relations under wraps. The plot of that film involved a veteran MIB agent and a newbie agent, fresh from the NYPD, partnering together to the world from a cockroach-type alien that lands in New York City looking to incite an intergalactic war.
Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed the first two films, will return to direct the third installment of the franchise.
