Authorities arrested a Californian man for allegedly killing a young pregnant woman walking on her way to work last week. The police concluded the gruesome incident as a "random act of violence."

The murderer has been named as 43-year-old Garrett Scheff. According to Fox News, the attack began around 9 o'clock in the morning. Mariana Jurado, 26, has been allegedly stabbed multiple times outside her home in Salinas on Nov. 19.

Unfortunately, the young Jurado's unborn child did not survive the brutal attack. Scheff was arrested by authorities not too far from where the attack took place.

The Salinas Police Department informed the public through an official statement on Facebook last week that the expectant mother was rushed to a local hospital. The victim has ultimately pronounced dead a short time after.

Salinas Police Commander John Murray told Fox News that the killing “is a senseless, violent crime." He added that the victim has no knowledge of her attacker at all.

Monica Cardova, Jurado’s neighbor, took witness and shared what she overheard during the confrontation between the victim and Scheff, saying, "Her screams were, honestly, something unexplainable."

Scheff has been charged with first-degree murder in Jurado's death. Court records indicate previous run-ins with the law that highlights the suspect's criminal history. According to the same report, Scheff's first arrests date back to the mid-1990s, which involved residential burglary, possession of a controlled substance, theft, amongst other charges. He was later declared mentally unfit to stand trial during a past criminal case in 2015.

Murray has confirmed that there is a possibility that additional charges will be filed against Scheff due to Jurado being pregnant. As of Monday, Scheff’s bail has been set to $1,015,000.
