  • Felipe Melo played for Brazil between 2009 and 2010
  • He revealed Brazil's tactics to stop Messi from dominating in a game
  • He even picked Messi ahead of Ronaldo as the greatest-ever soccer player

Brazilian soccer player Felipe Melo has revealed that during his playing days with the national team, the players used to take turns to kick Lionel Messi whenever they faced the Argentinian.

The FC Barcelona skipper has petrified every defense he’s come up against in the last 15 years or so and the only way to keep him under control was by fouling him, according to Melo. However, the Brazilian player, without any hesitation, accepted that Messi is the greatest ever to play the game of soccer and according to Melo, Messi is more incredible than Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He's a unique player. When Brazil played against him we used to say 'we have to kick him once each, we have to rotate'. If we didn't, it was too difficult to mark him. We didn't want to break him, just to cut his rhythm and to disturb him - it was tactical,” the midfielder recently said in an interview.

When the conversation diverted to the comparison between Messi and Ronaldo, Melo was sure of his reply.

“Messi is incredible, more so than Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristiano can score five goals for you, but Messi can score those five and then make his teammates score as well. He's more complete,” Melo, who has also played in the top leagues such as La Liga and Serie A further added.
