  • Met Gala 2020 organizers are allegedly hoping ticket holders will make their tickets a donation
  • The event was announced postponed in March
  • It was eventually canceled by the Metropolitan Museum of Art recently

Met Gala 2020 is canceled, leaving most people wondering if ticket holders will be able to get a refund. After all, the price to attend such a prestigious event costs an arm and a leg.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art officially canceled the Met Gala 2020, which was supposed to be held on the first Monday of May and was meant to raise funds for the Costume Institute. According to Page Six sources, many called-off shows have reached out to ticket holders, asking them if they could consider the money as a donation and not ask for a refund.

However, the cost of a single ticket for Met Gala is $30,000 and a table is a mind-boggling $300,000. The staggering price is linked to the uber-limited spots and the A-lister guests of the event. Vogue has yet to release an official statement for ticket holders.

“As the global arts and culture community, and the Met, suffer huge losses as a result of the pandemic, and as the Met Gala is the Costume Institute’s primary source of annual funding, they hope guests will consider generously turning their tickets to this fundraiser into a donation or transfer tickets toward next year’s gala. If that is not possible, the money will, of course, be refunded,” a source said.

In mid-March, Vogue editor-in-chief and Met Gala chairperson Anna Wintour said that the 2020 event was postponed because of the rising cases of coronavirus infection, Harper’s Bazaar reported. On May 19, the Metropolitan Museum Art finally announced that the high-society bash was canceled.

The Met Gala 2020s theme is “About Time: Fashion and Duration,” which was inspired by French philosopher Henri Bergson and writer and modernist Virginia Woolf. This year’s hosts would have been actress Emma Stone, Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquiere, “Hamilton” genius Lin-Manuel Miranda, and multi-Academy winner Meryl Streep.

Had the Met Gala happened, it would have been Streep’s first time to attend the lavish event. Last year’s gala saw the eccentric outfits of attendees such as Lady Gaga, who made multiple costume changes, Billy Porter, Serena Williams, Jared Leto, Lily-Rose Depp and Kylie Jenner as a nod to the 2019 theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”
