Met Gala 2021: Elliot Page Makes First Red Carpet Appearance Since Gender Transition
Elliot Page, who came out as a transgender last year, made his red carpet debut at the Met Gala 2021. The highly anticipated event took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City on Monday.
The 34-year-old actor donned a classic black suit with a green boutonniere flower at the event. He completed the look with a pair of black sneakers.
Fans were quick to share their reactions to Page's first red carpet walk since his transition, with many of them expressing their love and support for the actor. There were also those who pointed out that he wore a suit that was too big for him.
"Elliot page looks like every trans man going to their first formal event and I really love it warms my heart to see them go through the suit-and-tie stage of transmasculine transition lmao I love him," a fan wrote.
Another noted, "Elliot page looks like every trans boy at every formal event ever… wearing a suit thats too big for him I love u, honey."
Another fan shared a photo of Page meeting the "Game of Thrones" stars Kit Harington and Rose Leslie. In the snap, Harington donned a white suit with a black bow tie while Leslie wore a cute yellow dress.
In March, Page spoke about the importance of clothing in gender identity and opened up about how he used to never recognize himself during red carpet events.
"I just never recognized myself," the actor told Time Magazine. "For a long time, I could not even look at a photo of myself."
"How to explain to people that even though [I was] an actor, just putting on a T-shirt cut for a woman would make me so unwell," he explained at that time. "I'd be like, 'Hey, look at all these nice outfits you’re getting,' and he would say, 'It's not me. It feels like a costume.'"
The "The Umbrella Academy" star was initially known as Ellen Page. However, he made an announcement on Twitter in December 2020 that he would go by the name Elliot Page.
"I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer," he wrote in the announcement tweet. "And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive."
On the work front, the actor is currently working on an animated television series titled "Ark: The Animated." Meanwhile, "The Umbrella Academy," in which the actor stars, reportedly wrapped filming last month.
