Meta Introduces New Virtual Reality Headset 'Meta Quest Pro' With Hefty Price Tag
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, introduced Tuesday its latest virtual reality headset, "Meta Quest Pro," which it boasts as its most realistic to date.
The Quest Pro costs $1,499 compared to Meta's last released VR set Meta Quest 2, which was priced at $399. It is said to have sharper visuals, better ergonomics, an upgraded processor, eye tracking and a high-resolution color video feed. The new VR headset also claims to enhance the Metaverse experience.
Meta Quest Pro is "built to expand the possibilities of virtual and mixed reality," by making the "physical and digital worlds can finally interact seamlessly," Meta said in a release Tuesday.
Orders will be shipped out starting Oct. 25 and preorders start Tuesday.
A user's VR avatar can copy facial expressions like moving eyebrows or twitching a face by picking up even the tiniest movements through the VR headset.
The Meta Quest Pro comes with a new curved battery on the back that helps make it more balanced.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg told The Verge during a demo at Meta's research division in Redmond, Washington, that Meta Quest Pro "is the highest-end VR device — for enthusiasts, the prosumer, the sort of people who are trying to get work done."
