Mexico 2-1 Brazil: Highlights of El Tri’s Historic Olympic Win

Mexico won Olympic soccer gold for the first time in their history on Saturday, courtesy of an upset 2-1 victory over Brazil at Wembley. Striker Oribe Peralta, scorer in El Tri's semifinal victory over Japan, came to the fore once more as he struck both goals. Hulk replied late on for a disappointing Brazil, who were widely considered favorites to take home the top prize.

For Mexico, the triumph continues to point toward a bright future following victory in the Toulon tournament earlier this summer and in the Under-17 World Cup last year.

Peralta got Mexico off to a perfect start at a packed Wembley as he struck inside the first minute. Brazilian full-back Rafael, under pressure, played a dangerous ball inside to Sandro, allowing Javier Aquino to step in and set up Peralta for a low finish past Gabriel.

Luis Fernando Tena's side then put one hand on the trophy as they doubled their lead in the 75th minute. Marco Fabian supplied a perfect cross from a free-kick and Peralta easily lost his marker to power a header down into the net.

Nerves were jangling, though, when Brazilian substitute Hulk raced down the inside right before finishing low across Jose Corona to make it 2-1 in the first minute of injury time. Despite being short of their best, Brazil still could have equalized. Oscar headed his golden chance wide, though, and Mexico were celebrating a memorable victory.
