Miami Man Who Allegedly Killed Father, Stabbed Mother Following Argument Was A Former Convict
A man in Miami has been charged for allegedly killing his father and attempting to murder his mother following a heated argument.
The police arrived at their home Sunday night after the father called 911 to report his son had turned violent and was attacking him. The man then reportedly put his phone in his pocket, and the officers could hear the altercation and a woman screaming, NBC Miami reported.
Officers rushed to the spot and heard the woman screaming. They also saw through the window a man lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
When they entered the home, the police found the accused, identified as 24-year-old Marlon Herrera, attacking his mother with a knife on the kitchen floor. The woman was "suffering from stab wounds and had a knife blade stuck in her back," the police report said, CBS Miami reported.
The victims were rushed to a local hospital, where the accused's father was pronounced dead on arrival. The woman was undergoing treatment as of Monday. She reportedly underwent an emergency surgery and remained in critical condition.
The accused was taken into custody from the residence. He appeared in court Monday and was charged with second degree murder and second-degree attempted murder. The police records show Herrera had been convicted in a 2017 burglary of an occupied dwelling. He was released from prison in February this year.
Speaking to Local 10, Phil Acosta, the victims’ neighbor, said,he heard the accused arguing with his parents before the incident.
"It was more or less him, he started, you know, like yelling and screaming ... throwing stuff. That’s when stuff escalated, and then they called the police, and the police showed up in 5 minutes. I guess it was too late," Acosta told the outlet.
The reason behind the argument was not known.
The accused was booked into jail and was being held without bond as of Monday. "You are going to stay in jail," Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer told the accused while charging him.
