Michael Caine is not retiring from acting just yet.
"I haven't retired and not a lot of people know that," the 88-year-old actor tweeted Saturday — a day after his comments that Lina Roessler’s "Best Sellers" may end up being his last film sparked retirement rumors.
Caine's reps also confirmed to Variety that he is not yet done making movies. The "Batman Begins" star is currently reviewing two scripts as potential future projects, unnamed sources told the outlet.
In addition to his tweet, Caine said in a statement to the outlet, "Regarding retirement, I've spent over 50 years getting up at 6 a.m. to make movies, and I'm not getting rid of my alarm clock!"
Rumors about the British actor's retirement began to swirl Friday after Caine discussed his career on the BBC radio program "Kermode and Mayo’s Film Review."
"Funnily enough, it has turned out to be my last part, really," he said of his role in "Best Sellers." "Because I haven’t worked for two years, and I have a spine problem which affects my leg, so I can’t walk very well."
While he wasn't active as an actor, Caine said he wrote and published a couple of "successful" books. Comparing the two professions, he said being a writer was "lovely" because "as an actor, you have to get up at half-past six in the morning and go to the studio. As a writer, you can start writing without leaving the bed!"
When host Simon Mayo asked the two-time Oscar winner if "Best Sellers" would be his last film, Caine said, "I think it would be, yeah. There haven't been any offers, obviously, for two years. Because nobody’s been making any movies I'd want to do. But also, I'm 88. There's not exactly scripts pouring out where the leading man is 88."
This was not the first time Caine had talked about retirement. In an interview with Variety back in August, he said he never officially retired and he's glad he made that decision.
"If I retired at 65, I would never have won an Academy Award [for 'Cider House Rules'], I would never have done a picture with Jack Nicholson and would not have done all those ['Batman'] movies with Christopher Nolan," he said at the time.
Caine's "Best Sellers," which also stars Aubrey Plaza, Ellen Wong and Scott Speedman, was released on Sept. 17.
