Michael Douglas Oral Sex Update: Actor Didn't Say Cunnilingus Was The Cause Of Cancer

Everyone is talking about oral sex after Michael Douglas’ TMI moment. The “Wall Street” actor essentially said he contracted the human papilloma virus from performing cunnilingus and subsequently developed throat cancer. There’s little to no doubt that he thoroughly embarrassed his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones with his astounding statement and now the actor wants to amend his comment.

"Michael Douglas did not say cunnilingus was the cause of his cancer," said a rep quoted by People.com. "It was discussed that oral sex is a suspected cause of certain oral cancers as doctors in the article point out, but he did not say it was the specific cause of his personal cancer."

The interview the 68-year-old actor gave to the Guardian went viral, but the “Behind the Candelabra” star is laughing off all the media attention. In fact, he’s embracing it as awareness for head and neck cancer.

"I never expected to become a poster boy for head and neck cancer, but, if after what started out as trying to answer a couple of questions about the suspected sources of this disease results in opening up discussion and furthering public awareness, then I'll stand by that," he said at an American Cancer Society event, according to People.com.

"Head and neck cancer can be caused by many things, including HPV virus, smoking, alcohol, drug abuse, genes, environment and stress," Douglas continued. "I do not know what caused my particular cancer. If I did I'd have a Nobel Prize. I do know that I am here today because of all the incredible advances in cancer research and treatment. Early awareness is a key factor. If this episode contributes to public awareness, all the better."

Douglas was diagnosed with Stage IV throat cancer in 2010. After eight weeks of intensive radiation and chemotherapy, he has been cancer-free for two years.
