Michael Jackson’s Son Prince Admits He Didn’t Inherit His Dad’s Singing, Dancing
Michael Jackson’s son, Michael Joseph Prince Jackson Jr., recently admitted that he did not inherit his dad’s singing chops.
During an interview with “This Morning with Phillip & Holly,” the 20-year-old said that he is not gifted in performing arts. “I can’t sing. I can’t dance. I can’t do any of that. I have tried the Moonwalk and it’s embarrassing. We can’t even talk about that,” he said.
Instead, Prince has decided to pursue a career behind-the-scenes by running his own production company called King’s Son. “I’m a very private person in my private life and I don’t like to reveal to the public things that aren’t appropriate. I decided to go into production because it’s still in the entertainment industry but behind the camera,” he said.
Aside from running his production company, Prince is also actively involved in his late dad’s charity foundation, Heal the World, which was named after Jackson’s 1992 hit song.
“We focus on child hunger, child abuse and homelessness in the Los Angeles area. We really structured it off the Heal the World but on a smaller scale to lead by example to say you don’t have to be a pop star or be very famous to make a difference. You can make a difference by going out and doing these things by yourself or with a group of friends in your own city,” he said.
Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009. At the time, Prince was just 12 years old, so he didn’t really understand how much of an impact his father had on his fans. “I thought it was normal at first but then we saw videos of him performing. People were fainting. One time we were outside the Dorchester and lots of people were shouting and chanting his name and my dad sent out pizza and hot chocolate to them,” he shared.
Jackson is survived by his daughter, Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson, 19, and Prince Michael Jackson II, also known as Blanket, 15. Paris is also making a name for herself in the industry as a fashion designer, but it is Blanket who might follow in his dad’s footsteps as an all-around artist.
