KEY POINTS

  • The documentary on Michael Jordan's career "The Last Dance" recently aired its first two episodes
  • Jordan is considered by many as one of the greatest players of all time
  • The popularity of his documentary has sparked a discussion on who among football's greatest should have their own series

The lack of sports has been difficult for the world but “The Last Dance” documentary on Michael Jordan’s career has been a suitable alternative to fill in fans on their basketball fix. Social media heavily discussed the historic Chicago Bulls dynasty and the soccer community has also likened the series to their greatest players.

While Jordan’s story has been the main discussion, a post by ESPN FC ensued a slight debate on who is worthy of a similar documentary. The tweet featured arguably the four greatest soccer players of all time, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele and Diego Maradona.

These players are considered as legends of the sport as fans have taken to social media to add to the perpetual debate on who is the best among them all.

The careers of Pele and Maradona have without a doubt influenced the landscape of what football is today. Nobody dominated like those two and their jersey number 10 has become an iconic staple in soccer.

While their careers have all been said and done, Messi and Ronaldo are still actively adding more accolades to their already illustrious careers. Awards such as the prestigious Ballon d’Or have already found their way to the hands of these two athletes on multiple occasions.

Both Messi and Ronaldo hold the record for most nominations of the Golden Ball with 12 each. The Argentinian Messi has the most wins with six but Ronaldo isn’t far behind with five.

There’s no question that all of these stars deserve their recognition to be included in the ‘greatest of all time’ debate. Fans have discussed different ideas on who deserves to have “The Last Dance” of their own as one Twitter user likened Jordan’s ’97-’98 campaign to Ronaldo’s ’17-’18 Real Madrid victory.

Some went to analyze what kind of documentary each person would produce if a series were to be made of them.

While there is no official word yet on a series on football’s greatest player, fans and experts worldwide can still enjoy “The Last Dance” in the coming days. The show will continue until May to keep everyone company with much-needed sports content. The 10-part series will air two episodes weekly and will conclude on May 17.
