Michael Madsen was arrested in Malibu on suspicion of misdemeanor trespassing. The arrest comes a month after his son died a tragic death by suicide in Hawaii.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the incident took place around 9 p.m. Wednesday night, when the owner of the property Madsen had been renting performed a citizen’s arrest on the “Kill Bill” actor, and called the police for assistance. It remains unclear why the property owner had to call the police.
Cops arrived and arrested Madsen, who was wearing a Harley Davidson denim jacket and a Hawaiian shirt, and led him to West Hills Hospital before transferring him to a police station. He was reportedly given a $500 citation and released from custody around 6:45 a.m. Thursday.
The actor’s run-in with the law comes just a month after his son, 26-year-old Hudson died by suicide in Oahu, Hawaii. The City and County of Honolulu Dept. of the Medical Examiner previously confirmed the death, which occurred on Jan. 23, was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, Madsen opened up about his thoughts on his son’s tragic passing. “I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy—my last text from him was ‘I love you dad,’” he said at the time. “It’s so tragic and sad. I’m just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened.”
“He had typical life challenges that people have with finances, but he wanted a family. He was looking towards the future, so it’s mind-blowing. I just can’t grasp what happened,” he continued.
The “Reservoir” actor added that Hudson, who had just completed his first tour in the U.S. Army at the time of his death, could have been shamed by the officers for needing therapy, causing him to stop getting help for his possible mental health issues. Madsen noted, however, that he did not see any signs of depression prior to his death.
