Michael McKean Released From St. Luke's Hospital, Transfered To Roosevelt Hospital For Rehabilitation
Actor Michael McKean was released from St. Luke's Hospital in Manhattan Wednesday after he was hit by a car last week.
McKean -- whose voluminous screen, TV and stage credits include his friend Christopher Guest's This Is Spinal Tap -- was struck by a vehicle on the Upper West Side May 22 after the car drove up on the sidewalk. He was one of three people who were injured in the incident, reported TMZ.
McKean suffered a broken leg and underwnt surgery the next day.
While McKean was released by the hospital, he will have to spend time in rehabilitation at Roosevelt Hospital, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
I am heading into week two with renewed admiration for New York City's Emergency Medical Service staff, the NYPD, the staff of St. Luke's Hospital (where I was born!) and all those with problems much greater than my own, McKean said in a statement, reported the Washington Post. I am overwhelmed by the good wishes of friends old and new. My family has been wonderful. My wife Annette, whom I've always suspected of being a saint, has proven to be somewhat more than that.
McKean will have to drop out of the Broadway production of Gore Vidal's The Best Man, which was nominated for two Tony Awards.
He also interacted with concerned fans on Twitter.
Lucky man: best wife, great kids, awesome docs and nurses, priceless friends; a little overwhelmed by the sweet tweets, he wrote. Love all y'all.
Case I haven't mentioned it, I appreciate all the good wishes, he wrote in another Tweet. I'm thankful every day it wasn't worse. You've all helped a ton.
McKean has appeared on many television shows, including Laverne and Shirley, Saturday Night Live, The X-Files and Smallville.
