Michelle Obama After Beyonce Concert: 'I Love Her To Death'
First lady Michelle Obama is a huge Beyonce fan, as she said I love her to death after being asked on Good Morning America about the concert she saw over the weekend.
The Associated Press reported that Michelle Obama attended the Beyonce concert Saturday at Revel Resorts in Atlantic City, N.J., alongside first daughters Sasha and Malia in the sold-out crowd. Also present was New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a conservative darling many Republicans wanted to run against her husband this year.
Michelle Obama has a long history of loving Beyonce, telling People magazine that if she had to be any one other person, she would be the pop singer.
The concert was Beyonce's first since the birth of her and husband Jay-Z's daughter Blue Ivy Carter in January, and the first lady was apparently impressed by the performance, she uttered the following statement Tuesday on Good Morning America: I love her to death.
The connection between the two women is not based only in their shared love of music, but also in their dedication to the cause of ending childhood obesity and promoting healthy lifestyles in children.
Michelle Obama has been a tireless advocate for the cause of ending childhood obesity, from growing vegetables in the White House garden to exercising with kids at stops around the country. And Beyonce has also contributed her voice to the cause, speaking about the importance of exercise in young Americans and releasing a music video and song called Move Your Body that aims to get kids off the couch and working out.
Obama also released a healthy-food cookbook called American Grown this week, and she took her time on GMA to speak about it and to continue to address the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles.
Obama has been in the news a lot lately as the presidential race heats up, and early, hushed murmurs are rising about drafting her to run for president in 2016.
But it seems that the fun back-and-forth lovefest between her and Beyonce has been getting the most attention this week.
New York magazine did a good job of tracing the recent expressions of their friendship in a May 24 blog post:
Last month, Beyoncé posted an open letter to the First Lady on her website, that ended with, 'Thank you so much for every single thing that u do for us - I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you to look up to.
Michelle responded the next day in the form of a tweet, which read, @Beyonce Thank you for the beautiful letter and for being a role model who kids everywhere can look up to. -mo
