Michelle Obama recently made a heartbreaking confession about her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, who grew up at the White House.
During her conversation with Oprah Winfrey for the “2020 Vision: Your Life In Focus” tour, the ex-FLOTUS revealed how she reminded her daughters to not define themselves by looking at each other or by looking at their parents’ achievements.
“They have to take the time to get to know themselves—give themselves a moment to figure out who they want to be in the world, not who they think I want them to be, not what the rest of the world says about them, but to really think about how they want to shape their lives and how they want to move in this world. So, I don’t want them measuring themselves by external influences, and for young girls, that is hard to do,” the former first lady said.
Barack Obama’s wife also talked about her life since leaving the White House. She said that the next phase of her journey is continuing to make sure that everything she does has meaning and purpose. Michelle also said that she wants to empower the next generation of politicians, teachers, doctors, lawyers, and community activists.
“I want to be a part of laying out a set of values and principles that we can all be proud of; of this country,” she said.
Meanwhile, the ex-FLOTUS also made headlines this week after she shared an adorable throwback photo of herself at prom decades ago. Michelle shared the photo in an attempt to encourage more people to vote in the upcoming presidential elections.
In the picture, Michelle is wearing a pink satin and polka-dotted dress. Her hair is much shorter, and she is also smiling from ear to ear while sitting on a chair.
“Throwing it back to my 1982 prom night and this pink satin, polka-dotted dress. Join the #PromChallenge with When We All Vote and MTV and tell us what your school is doing to register students to vote. You could get a free prom for your school,” she captioned the snap.
